Customer Reviews
By Customer (Reisterstown, Maryland USA) - Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I choose this unit because of Blu-ray.
And this is regardless of the fact, that I was convinced that BD will have problem.
Of course BD does not work as BD, nor there is any software installed.
WinDVD8 software on included disk is not installed by Asus, probably because it is useless.
I could not even activate it via Corel (it is circa 2006), maybe VinDVD 2010 is better.
I purchased HP with BD couple month ago, it was not working ether with included software.
So I am using latest Cyberlink, which is working mostly OK (with latest patches).
BD is relatively new format, no standard. Every newest Blu Disk may require upgrade/patches.
This is probably why there are not too many PC's offered with BDDVD.
They should be sold with BIG WARNING.
PC itself is not bad: Good screen, sound, relatively light and quick.
Not the latest CPU, memory or IO's nor good battery life.
The consolation is that price is about the same as regular DVD.
Without BD it is possible to find something slightly less expensive or better (nominally) hardware.
If looking for Blu-ray, be prepared to spent $100 for software, at least in my experience.

P.S.
After my fiasco with HP: hours with "technical ?" support,
I was reluctant to even contact ASUS.
Eventually I decided to use e-mail support.
In probably less than 12 hrs I received reply with a link to download different version of VinDVD8.
This one working OK, at least with Blu-ray disks I own.
Therefore I changing my review to 5 stars.
There are better units, but certainly not for under $900.
